The Director of Business Operations is a key integral member of the senior executive management team of a large and well-established, private Christian College with multiple campuses across the greater Darwin region, NT. This reputable co-ed Christian College has grown to 160 staff and 1,050 student enrolments, with an annual turnover of $20 million p.a.  The team is committed to a restorative approach to the holistic development of young learners from Early Learning to Year 12 education.

Also, the professional needs to have a consultative approach to support, coach, and mentor leaders in the performance management and growth of their teams. The Director cultivates vision ownership, innovation, creativity, and initiative, where the whole team works cohesively to produce excellent services to support the learning programs and deliver key outcomes.
 
As a strategic leader, the Director supports and advises the Principal and College Board in their decision-making, and the implementation of the strategic plan, aims and objectives of the College. The role is responsible for the systemic financial and business operation management and the oversight management of departmental Line Managers in the business support services. Therefore, the incumbent must possess high business acumen.

The Director ensures the efficient management of the business support service departments and functions within the Finance and Administration, Human Resources, Project Management, Marketing and Communications, Information Technology, Student Enrolment, Grounds & Property Services, Learning Support/Student Services Officers, and Contracted Services (Uniform, ICT, Canteen, Cleaning, Transport). Providing leadership, and oversight management support to the Line-Managers to be effective managers of their staff and resources. This role has management accountability for the 51 non-teaching personnel and for all operational activities regarding financial stability, innovation, and growth.

Reporting to the Principal and College Board, the key responsibilities are:

  • Support the Principal, College Board and the Executive Management team to foster desired culture, ownership of vision, and the implementation of the 10-year strategic plan.
  • Provide sound advice to the College Board on business/financial matters, timely monthly reports, cashflow budget reports, and other business-related matters for the Board Meetings.
  • Ensure the College’s financial/business operations are streamlined, robust and that appropriate measures are in place to adopt the best policies, practices, and processes to fully meet the integrity, accuracy and transparency requirements to annual audit accounting and legislative statutory standards.
  • Drive strategic financial and business performance with Line Managers to excel in set KPIs and achieve key outcomes that support the teaching and learning programs.
  • Working collaboratively with the Finance Manager in business/financial matters to achieve deliverables.
  • Collage insightful analysis from data analytics to deliver valuable insights of financials and identify process improvements that can increase efficiency and better manage risks.
  • Predictive analytics to use existing data to identify trends and more accurate planning and forecasting.
  • Preparation and oversight of the budget using proven budgeting techniques.
  • Maintain robust financial procedures and framework controls in the annual audit process and subsequent reporting.
  • Implement effective risk mitigation strategies.
  • Set up, monitor, and report key business metrics on the College’s performance and operational health.
  • Evaluate the Marketing Plan to improve current and future marketing strategies and the implementation of the plan to targeted goals.
  • Ensure Human Resources functions are in place, including performance appraisal and succession planning of Line-Managers and assist Managers to develop their leadership and management skills.
  • Plan, lead, and oversee Line-Managers of change processes within each department to ensure staff are adapting to new changes.
  • Support the Principal to negotiate, review, and manage EBA Agreement.
  • Ensure a safe workplace that adheres to Work, Health and Safety procedures.

Candidates who ideally have a CA, CPA, MBA or equivalent business qualifications with successful performance outcomes within complex business environments, are encouraged to apply.

Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and a strong knowledge of ICT systems are also essential. Applicants within the commercial, education or not-for-profit sectors are encouraged to apply.  

This is for an initial 5-year contract tenure with the opportunity for further renewal. An attractive remuneration package is on offer, including 6 weeks annual leave, and professional development opportunity.
