Business Manager - North of Adelaide CBD
This successful College since its inception in 2017, has allied with community partners and has experienced exponential growth. There is now, a newly created permanent full-time Business Manager position.
This successful independent, co-ed College provides ELC, Primary to Secondary education, and has grown significantly to well over 500 students, employing 80 staff members (40 teaching and 40 non-teaching), and is financially robust. The Business Manager reports directly to the Principal, and indirectly to the School Board of Directors. This key management role is directly responsible for the strategic leadership and astute management of the business/financial operation which includes 5 Support Service departments. Ensuring the departments deliver excellent customer service in support services to enhance the learning program of the College.
This ‘hands-on’ management role, manages the Finance/Business Administration team, including the Finance Manager and HR Officer. Other Support Service departments include ICT, Capital Works/Property Maintenance, Grounds & Gardens, SSOs (Student Support Officers), Canteen, and Transport. Also, managing an upcoming new 5.5 Mil Building project and other upcoming projects as they arise.
Some management will also cover all employees within the College where payroll, budget, cost-control, HR, Risks & Compliance, WH&S, and Security.
Reporting to the Principal, the requirements of the role are:
1. Assist and support the Principal, senior management team, and School Board of Directors in the strategic planning, management, and growth of the College.
2. Work collaboratively with the Principal and School Board to develop, implement and monitor the School’s Business Plan and Master Plan with measurable outcomes.
3. Provide exceptional leadership to support a relational, respectful, and safe culture.
4. Advise and support the Senior Management leadership and School Board in their decision-making on all business and financial matters.
5. Provide timely, monthly financial reports, cashflow management and projections, business-related matters, projects update, data analysis, and interpretation of data to senior management and the School Board.
6. Implement child safety protection initiatives and measures.
7. Ensure all relevant security measures are in place, both online and offline.
8. Astute management of the business/finance department, managing Finance Manager, evaluating and streamlining systems and processes, to improve performance efficiency and reduce costs.
9. Ensure preparation of financial and administrative data, and tax returns are accurate and done in a timely manner and do adhere to audit and legal governing standards.
10. Prepare monthly financial reporting; data analysis and interpretation; risk management, budget setting, preparation, and forecasting; cash flow and debt management, preparation of tax returns, GST and FBT lodgement.
11. Application and provide accountability reporting on grants and funding.
12. Train non-teaching departments in strong customer service delivery, and manage budgets and spending.
13. Assist non-teaching departments to identify, set goals and objectives, and achieve monthly KPIs.
14. Ensure HR-related functions including performance appraisal, employment contracts, policies and procedures are in place, working with the HR Officer.
15. Review wages and departments’ monthly budgets.
16. Negotiate with suppliers and contractors on contractual agreements.
17. Develop non-teaching departments to set goals and objectives and achieve the targeted KPIs.
18. Identify and implement Policies and Procedures, Risks & Compliance measures, and ensure departments are adherent.
19. Assist the Principal with legal and industrial matters.
20. Ensure Work, Health & Safety standards are met by all staff.
21. Attend some after-hours meetings.
Candidates must have demonstrable operations management experience within complex business operations. Either education, commercial or Not-For-Profit sector experience is ideal. CA/CPA, MBA or other business qualifications are ideal.
